epistolary novel concept
concept: an epistolary novel* featuring two characters (see characters) who are in their final semesters at university. halfway through their semesters they discover that their favorite writer (see henry owen o'henry) has died and has left them his farm.
characters:
elliott, attending an undisclosed university in new york city. he grew up with his mother. his father died when he was 7 years old in a mysterious hunting related accident. a forest ranger found his father's body along with a barking dog two days after his disappearance. the family sold their hunting cabin shorty after, along with the dog.
heinrich, attending an undisclosed university in washington, dc. although he has a german name, he is not german in the slightest. the only word he knows how to say in german is "gift": (poison). this he remembered for its irony. when he was a child, his mother, for reasons unbeknownst to him, labeled the entire house with german flash cards for one week. his father, a military man, was honorably discharged from the service after a severe and sudden visual deterioration when heinrich was 7 years old. heinrich then made the transition into public school. his father still raises and lowers the flag every dawn and dusk, playing taps on his bugle.
henry owen o'henry, a writer/artist/philosopher/farmer, whom elliott and heinrich greatly admire.
*if you want to find out more about elliott, heinrich and henry owen o'henry, read the as yet to be published/written novel by Justine and Steph.
